Bell Airacobra P-39
Part of the New "Wings of Dreams" collection of iconic and famous aircraft, this beautiful T-Shirt highlights the sometimes forgotten Bell Airacobra P-39.
The Bell Airacobra P-39 was produced by Bell Aircraft for the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. It was one of the principal fighters in service when the United States entered the war. It had an unusual design with the engine placed behind the pilot. Due to the lack of a turbocharger, it was limited to low altitude work which caused it to lose favor with the USAAF. It has been said that the Bell Airacobra could not get any respect.
The Bell Airacobra P-39 was used by other countries with great effect. In particular, Russia whose pilots achieved the highest number of kills for any American Fighter flown by any other air force in the conflict.
