Bell P39 Airacobra
Part of the New "Wings of Dreams" collection of iconic and famous aircraft, this beautiful T-Shirt highlights the sometimes forgotten Bell P39 Airacobra.
The Bell P39 Airacobra was produced by Bell Aircraft for the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. It was one of the principal fighters in service when the United States entered the war. It had an unusual design with the engine placed behind the pilot. Due to the lack of a turbocharger, it was limited to low altitude work, which caused it to lose favor with the United States Army Air Force. It has been said that the Bell P39 Airacobra could not get any respect. It was the Rodney Dangerfield of fighter planes.
The Bell P39 Airacobra was used by other countries with great effect. In particular, Russian pilots achieved the highest number of kills using an American Fighter. This was in WWII for planes flown by any other air force in the conflict.
