Cunningham C-4R American 50's Sports Racing Car
The Cunningham C-4R, developed in 1952, was a sports car created for the Briggs Cunningham racing team. It earned an impressive total of 16 podium finishes, with 8 race wins in its class and an additional 2 total victories between 1952 and 1956.
Three chassis were constructed, two Spyder's and a Coupé, each fitted with a 5.5 L (340 cu in) Chrysler V8 engine.
The C-4R was Cunningham's most accomplished creation, achieving 12 wins, 26 podiums, and 8 class victories through 51 race starts. The type debuted in 1952 during the SCCA championship in Bridgehampton; however, Phil Walters dropped out due to a broken exhaust. Briggs Cunningham and Bill Spear drove the C-4R to a 4th place finish in the 1952 24 Hours of Le Mans, claiming victory in the over 5 Liter class.
