Kilauea Lighthouse - Historic Lighthouse in Hawaii

Kilauea Lighthouse by Smiling Wombat

The Kilauea Lighthouse is located in Cape Kilauea on Kauai, Hawaii, within the Cape Kilauea National Wildlife Refuge.

The 52-foot-tall Daniel K. Inouye  Kīlauea Point Lighthouse on the northernmost tip of Kauai was built in 1913 as a lighthouse for sailing ships. Although its lights were turned off and replaced by automatic beacons in the 1970s, it remains one of the most frequented places on the island attractions. Views of the rugged northern coastline and the deep blue Pacific Ocean make this the perfect vantage point for photos. The lighthouse is located in the Cape Kilauea National Wildlife Refuge and is a sanctuary for seabirds. Signage throughout the sanctuary identifies a variety of native birds Species that nest or visit the area include large wedge-tailed frigate birds, Newell's gulls, brown and red-footed boobies, and black-backed albatrosses. Watch them soar into the sky or see their burrows up close.
 
The wonderful light of the lighthouse has saved many ships and the souls who work on them. The beautiful Kilauea Lighthouse is located in the Kilauea Cape National Wildlife Refuge. This means that lighthouses not only help boats keep away from rocks and other hazards, but also our animal friends in a wildlife sanctuary.
