The North American B-25 Mitchell is a powerful medium bomber that was introduced in 1941 and named after Major General William "Billy" Mitchell, a pioneer of U.S. military aviation. It was heavily utilized by numerous Allied air forces and saw action in all major theaters of World War II. The North American B25 Mitchell gained fame in the Doolittle Raid on April 18, 1942, when 16 of them, led by Lt. Co. Jimmy Doolittle, launched an attack on mainland Japan just four months after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. This mission gave a much-needed boost to the morale of Americans and struck fear into the Japanese, who had previously thought their home islands were untouchable by enemy forces.
